Mat Simmons, P.E., Principal Engineer
Mr. Simmons joined the Costa Engineers team in 2007 as an Engineer-in-Training and obtained his Professional Engineer registration in 2010. Mat quickly became one of the top engineers within the firm and was promoted to Senior Mechanical Engineer in 2015. When Mr. Costa was ready to retire in 2016, the baton was passed to Mat and he became one of two new Owners of the company.
Mat has a solid understanding of building code applications and strives to keep up-to-date on new technology and energy conservation measures. He has been the lead design engineer on several educational and commercial projects; however, his specialty is with health care facilities, which have very stringent requirements. Mat works directly with the Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development (OSHPD) as the delegated responsible individual on many of these projects. He also has worked with the State of California, Division of State Architect (DSA) in the same capacity. Mat possesses excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills. He has extensive knowledge in the design process of HVAC systems and is very skilled in handling multiple projects. He is well versed in VAV systems, secondary pumping, boiler plants and IAQ system troubleshooting.
